Type 1:  Low Serotonin

Score of 2 or more: Your brain is low in the soothing mood elevator called serotonin. A natural brain chemical or neurotransmitter, serotonin is calming and mood-raising at the same time, so it helps you to feel happy and relaxed. In fact I often recommend serotonin-boosters at bedtime to help you fall and stay asleep. Serotonin is increased by eating carbs and drinking alcohol – so no wonder you crave them! The good news is, there are better solutions.

What to do?

  • You can take supplements that are the building blocks of serotonin — the natural amino acid 5-hydroxytryptophan, or 5-HTP for short, as well as some helpers or co-factors such as B vitamins and certain minerals. (verdana 14)
  • If you still feel out of sorts — anxious; having trouble sleeping; overeating, especially carbs) — add in Brain Recovery AM & PM Formula.  It contains a whole array of essential mood-balancing nutrients as well as 5-HTP and its co-factors for a full court press on boosting your brain chemistry. Type 2:  Low Catecholamines.

Score of 2 or more: You’re likely low in the igniting, motivating neurotransmitters called catecholamines, which include dopamine, epinephrine (also called adrenalin), and norepinephrine (noradrenalin). Made from the amino acids D,L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine, the catecholamines keeps you energized, focused, and in a good mood. With levels too low you’re blah, and stuck on the couch unless you have your “upper” fix. This has you turning to caffeine and other stimulants, from diet pills to cocaine.

What to do?

  • The amino acid L-tyrosine and it’s relative, D,L-phenylalanine (DLPA) plus some helpers or co-factors will help raise your “reward” chemical, dopamine.

Type 3: Low GABA

Score of 2 or more: You’re low in the brain chemical GABA, your naturally soothing brain balancer. It brings you balance and calm, keeping you from simply going into orbit when stimulated, excited, or anxious. The quick fixes here are alcohol and downers. They take the edge off, but at a price.

What to do?

Some of the natural materials that make GABA in your brain are the amino acids GABA (yes, it’s both an amino acid and a neurotransmitter), L-theanine, taurine and glutamine. This combo helps you relax, fall asleep more easily, and stress-proof your body.

Type 4: Low Endorphins

What to do?
