19 year old daughter struggling with depression

Questions Asked to Hyla Cass, MDCategory: Depression19 year old daughter struggling with depression

From my own research, I feel that she may have a neurotransmitter imbalance.  Doesn’t sleep well, wakes up a lot during the night.  Craves sweets and carbs, deals with body image, weight issues and depression.  I don’t really want to put her on anti depressants.  Would you recommend DNA testing to see what natural support could help her out of this and be enthusiatic about life?

Without seeing her I can only guess but sure looks like she is low in serotonin, with sleep and weight issues, carb cravings, etc. I don’t think you need DNA testing to figure this out.  I’d put her on 5 HTP 100 mg  wice daily and go up to as much as 300 mg daily plus my Better Balance Multi which has co-factors that help make serotonin including methyl-folate. Try this out for starters and let me know how she does after a few weeks.
