Please I want to know the initial dose of tryptophan to take for anxiety and depression ?
Start with 100 mg and if that’s OK ie no adverse reaction, keep going up to 500 mg which is usually the lowest dose that works ie creates a feeling of calm and a good mood. Then gradually increase till you feel the way you’d like. Divide the does over the day – like 500 mg 3 times daily. You can go up to 2000 mg with no problem. Take cofactors along with it to help make serotonin. Take it with a bit of carb to help get it into the brain. I recommend q good multi such as my Better Balance multi that has a full complete of B vitamins, and in methylated form. Often people with anxiety are poor methylators and need this. If you take 5 HTP instead of tryptophan, the dose is 50 mg 5 HTP = 500 mg tryptophan. No need to take carb with it.
