Using Topical CBD

Using Topical CBD

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in the cannabis plant with significant therapeutic benefits when taken orally and topically, i.e. applied to the skin.CBD products are available in many forms, including tinctures (oil), capsules, and topicals. CBD topicals provide localized relief and can be used to target specific areas of the body. They are available in various forms, including creams, lotions, balms, sprays, and salves. How Are Topical CBD Products Used?

CBD topicals are applied directly to your skin and absorbed through your pores into the skin or epidermis. This is not to be confused with transdermal products  which contain additional ingredients that allow them to enter the bloodstream and reach the rest of the body. This article covers topical application only.

Before using a topical CBD product, it is important to do a patch test, where you apply a small amount of the product to a small area of skin and wait 24 hours. If you don’t experience any adverse effects, you can use the product as directed.

When using a topical CBD product, massage it into the skin in a circular motion until it is fully absorbed. You can apply it as often as needed. For best results, store the container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

Buyer’s Guide for Topical CBD Products

When choosing a topical CBD product, it’s important to select one that is right for your specific condition. If you’re seeking relief from muscle soreness you will use a different formulation than for  trying to treat eczema. Also select a product with high-quality ingredients and manufacturing processes.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when selecting a CBD topical:

Budget

Topical CBD products can range in price from $10 to $100, depending on the size and strength of the product.

Skin Concerns

If you’re looking for a product to help with multiple skin concerns, choose a topical with a higher concentration of CBD.

Skin Type

If you have sensitive skin, you may want to choose a topical with fewer ingredients and avoid products with added fragrances or essential oils.

CBD Concentrations

Topical CBD products come in various concentrations, from low-dose options that contain just a few milligrams of CBD per ounce to high-strength options with hundreds of milligrams per ounce. The right concentration for you will depend on a number of  factors:

  • The severity of your condition
  • Your general level of pain tolerance
  • How long do you want the effects of the product to last
  • Your body chemistry

For example, if you’re using a topical CBD product to help with arthritis pain, you may need a higher concentration than someone using it for post-workout muscle soreness. Similarly, if you want the effects of the product to last all day long, you’ll need a higher concentration than if you need relief for just an hour or two. In general, start with a low-dose option and increase gradually as needed until you find the perfect concentration for your needs.

Scents

This is a matter of personal preference. Those who are extra sensitive to scents will prefer non-scented. Others prefer products with a pleasant smell.

Lab Reports From Third-Parties

Every product should have a Certificate of Analysis. It will list the various cannabinoids, the terpenes, which can have considerable medicinal value, and also show the absence of toxins– toxic metals, pesticides, and herbicides. Hemp is a concentrator, so it must be grown in chemical-free soil, or it will accumulate the toxins found in contaminated soil. You’ll want a clean Certificate of Analysis from a certified independent lab; that is, one that is a third party, and not internal to the manufacturer.

Types of Topical CBD Products

There are three main types of topical CBD products: lotions, salves, and balms. Here’s a quick overview of each:

Lotions are typically water-based and contain ingredients like glycerin or aloe vera to help keep the skin hydrated. They’re usually lighter in texture and easier to apply than other topical CBD products.

Salves are oil-based and often contain beeswax or other ingredients that help to thicken the product and make it better suited for treating specific areas.

Balms are similar to salves but tend to be even thicker in texture due to the inclusion of ingredients like shea butter or cocoa butter.

The type of topical CBD product that is right for you depends on your preferences and what you are using it for. If you have dry skin, you may prefer a lotion because it will help to keep your skin hydrated. If you’re looking for something to use in a specific area to ease the pain or inflammation, a salve or balm may be a better option because it will stay in place longer than a lotion.

Benefits of Topical CBD Products

There are many benefits associated with using topical CBD products.

The most obvious benefit is local relief from pain or inflammation.

Topical CBD products may also help with conditions like eczema and psoriasis by reducing the appearance of redness and inflammation. In addition, topical CBD products can be used for cosmetic purposes to reduce the appearance of wrinkles or blemishes.

So select a topical CBD product that’s right for your particular condition and made with high-quality ingredients to experience all of its benefits!
